Commercial Catering

In our opinions commercial catering is the most neglected area in gas industry, some shocking installations are out there for various reasons, and a significant amount of outdated appliances are still in use. We have connection with Chinese takeaways and restaurants in this country, and we are experienced in commercial catering gas - from installation, maintenance to inspection.

We don't overkill, and we don't oversee any defects.

Nominal documents for commercial catering gas:

  1. British Standards 6173 (2009)

  2. IGEM/UP/2, IGEM/UP/19, IGE/UP/10, IGEM/UP/1B or IGEM/UP/1A

  3. HSE CIS No. 3, 10, 17 and 23

  4. B&ES (former HVCA) publication DW/172

  5. Gas Safe Register TB140

Common failed areas on commercial catering inspection

  1. Make up air must be a permanent source (an opening or mechanical fan) direct from outside and they should be not closable. Openable doors or windows are not accounted.

  2. Emergency gas cut off is required for all commercial catering kitchens, it can either be a manual shut off valve, or an automatically interlock.

  3. Gas leaks are easily found by frequently used gas appliances, particularly on isolation valves. They need replaced.

  4. Enclosed burner without FSD can still be found as old ovens. They are not allowed any more.

The charges for commercial catering inspection:

We do have a call out charge for all commercial catering gas safety visits, and the current rate is £90 per visit. This is a call out charge, please don't get it confused with a whole inspection charge, which is from £250 for a takeaway and from £300 for a restaurant.

From our catering safety inspection experience, more than half of the catering kitchens will be failed on our first visits, i.e. you might not be able to get an full inspection done on most of first visits, as we can't do work for free, so a call out charge for any London catering business is a must.

Once you organised some remedial work carried out suggested by our first visit, we are more than happy to attend again for a formal inspection, if passed, you will get these two certificates:
